Three Orlando graduating seniors received scholarship funds from the Friends of the Orange County Library System.  Gerry Zheng, a senior at Cypress Creek High School who has a weighted grade point average of 4.7, was awarded $1,000 toward tuition.  Brooke Griffin, a senior at Dr. Phillips High School who has a weighted G.P.A. of 5.0 and earned a perfect score on her SAT, was awarded $1,500 toward tuition.  Phillip Nguyen, the Valedictorian at Cypress Creek High School with a weighted G.P.A. of 5.3, was awarded $2,000 toward tuition.  Griffen plans to attend Harvard University in the fall.  Both Nguyen and Zheng will attend the University of Florida.

The Friends of the Library created the Ray Frenier Memorial Scholarship in honor and memory of the late Ray Frenier who volunteered in the Book Store for more than two decades.  This scholarship recognizes Orange County graduating high school seniors ho have volunteered a minimum of 75 hours to the library system, and who have demonstrated academic excellence and exceptional community service.  Scholarship applicants were required to submit an essay expressing what the experience of volunteering at the library has meant to them, and to provide one letter of recommendation from a teacher, guidance counselor, coach or other positive adult role model.  The scholarship winners were recognized at the Friends of the Library Annual Meeting and Luncheon on May 8 at the Orlando Public Library.

Pictured below are the scholarship winners with Friends of the Library President Thomas R. Kohler and Library Director/CEO, Mary Anne Hodel.
